The Molteni & C D.859.1 dining table is part of Italian furniture brand Molteni & C's Gio Ponti Collection, an exciting project to re-issue furniture created by Giovanni Ponti, the great Twentieth century architect and designer.
The D.859.1 table was originally designed by Gio Ponti in 1959 as a meeting table for the auditorium of the iconic Time & Life Building in New York. Seating up to ten people, the table stands out not only for its impressive size - up to 3,6 metres long - but for its simple, elegant design. The legs are notable for their fine-membered modernity, creating a trapezoidal single-span bridge upon which the large, tapered top conveys the idea of aerodynamics.
Every piece in the Gio Ponti collection complies with the design and materials in the original Gio Ponti documents and each piece in the collection carries a serial number and a screen-printed signature of the famous architect as a guarantee of its origin and authenticity.
Available in three sizes, the table top and frame is made from solid ash, which can be selected in a natural finish or stained black. Feet ends are in satin brass.
The full Gio Ponti collection includes smaller tables, sideboards, armchairs, shelving units, rugs and accessories. See related products below for other pieces in the collection, as well as the Miss dining chair which is matched with this table.
