Event 5 – Sonnet 23 ‘ As an unperfected actor on the stage’ ’ by Stuart Hartley is a hand-crafted wooden sculptural piece, taking its title from Shakespeare’s Sonnet 23.
Stuart Hartley’s practice sits between painting and sculpture, using colour and form to play
with moments and events of chance. In the ‘Event’ series, Stuart hides leJers from the first
lines of books, poetry, and texts among the various balls in the composition, exploring the
moment that words come to an author, just before they begin writing
Crafted from birch ply and beechwood, and painted with acrylic, this original piece measures
80 x 80 cm and is framed in a clear acrylic box frame, allowing all angles and details of the
work to be seen and discovered.
