‘Mappa Mundi Greater London’ by Ewan David Eason is a hand-gilded 24 Carat Gold leaf piece, with Black UV treated ink. Signed by the artist, this work is 69cm in diameter, and includes a back subframe for easy wall attachment.
A particular reference point for Ewan in this ‘Mappa Mundi’ series are Charles Booth’s 19th Century ‘Poverty Maps’, in which the streets of London were divided into levels of wealth using a colour coded system. Here, Ewan rejects the divisions of Booth’s maps, using the single colour of gold, and it’s precious qualities, to reflect the true, egalitarian nature of the city.
